Welcome to Enlisting in Corporate America

If you're here, chances are you're either preparing to leave the military, you've recently made the transition into Corporate America, or you're simply looking for practical leadership lessons that actually work.

Whatever brought you here, welcome. I'm glad you're here.

I'm Laura, a retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant who spent more than 21 years leading Airmen, solving problems, and accomplishing missions around the world. Like many veterans, I eventually traded my military uniform for business casual and stepped into the corporate world.

I'll be honest...

No one hands you a playbook for that transition.

Sure, there are resume workshops and interview tips, but very few people talk about what happens after you land the job.

That's where this community comes in.

What You'll Find Here

This isn't about teaching you how to "fit in."

It's about helping you recognize that many of the skills that made you successful in the military are exactly what Corporate America needs. Sometimes, they just need a little translating.

Here, we'll talk about things like:

  • How to communicate effectively in a corporate environment.

  • Building relationships that help you grow your career.

  • Navigating organizational dynamics without compromising your integrity.

  • Running productive meetings that people actually enjoy attending.

  • Creating processes that make teams more effective.

  • Turning military leadership experience into corporate influence.

  • Avoiding common mistakes many veterans make during the transition.

  • Practical lessons I learned—the easy way and the hard way.

Every article, video, and lesson comes from real experiences, real successes, and yes... a few mistakes along the way.

More Than Career Advice

While this page started with the goal of helping veterans navigate Corporate America, you'll also get to know me beyond my career.

I'm passionate about leadership, lifelong learning, fitness in my 40s, caregiving for my mother, and building meaningful relationships with family and friends.

Those experiences have shaped the leader I am today, and they'll occasionally find their way into the conversations we have here. Because leadership isn't something we turn on at work and turn off at home.

It's how we show up in every part of our lives.

Let's Learn Together

One thing I learned during my transition is that you don't have to figure everything out on your own.

Some lessons are best learned through experience. Others can be learned from someone who's already walked the path.

If I can help make your transition a little smoother, help you avoid a few unnecessary headaches, or simply remind you that you're not alone, then this page has done exactly what I hoped it would.

Thank you for being here.

I hope you'll follow along, join the conversation, ask questions, and share your own experiences.

Welcome to Enlisting in Corporate America. Let's navigate this mission together.
